Why we crochet with milk cotton (and what premium yarn really means)
Not all yarn is equal. Here's what we look for in a premium yarn, and why it matters for toys, flowers and bags.
When people pick up one of our pieces, the first thing they say is usually: it's so soft. That's the yarn.
What is milk cotton?
Milk cotton is a blend of cotton with milk-protein fibre. It's soft, smooth and slightly matte, takes colour beautifully, and holds stitches crisply — perfect for amigurumi faces and flower petals.
What makes a yarn premium?
- Consistent thickness — even stitches, clean shapes.
- Low pilling — it stays smooth after years of hugs.
- Colour-fast dyes — no bleeding in the wash.
- Skin-friendly fibres — safe for babies.
Where we use what
- Toys & baby pieces: milk cotton — soft and safe.
- Flowers: milk cotton and mercerised cotton for a gentle sheen.
- Bags: tightly twisted cotton that holds its shape.
Better yarn costs more, and makes slower work. We think it's worth it — and we hope you'll feel the difference.
