How to care for handmade crochet (so it lasts for years)
Washing, drying, storing and reshaping your crochet toys, flowers and bags — the simple routine we follow for everything we make.
Crochet is sturdy — but a little care keeps it looking new for years.
Washing
- Hand wash in cold water with a few drops of mild detergent or baby shampoo.
- Don't wring or twist. Gently press the water out between two towels.
- Amigurumi with safety eyes: spot-clean the face with a damp cloth instead of soaking.
Drying
- Dry flat in the shade. Direct hill sunshine is lovely for tea, not for dyed cotton — it fades colours.
- Reshape while damp: plump the toy, smooth the petals, square the corners of a bag.
Storing
- Keep pieces dry and out of direct sun. A cotton pouch is perfect — avoid sealed plastic during the monsoon.
- A few cloves or a cedar block keep insects away naturally.
Crochet flowers
Our bouquets never wilt, but they do collect dust. A soft makeup brush or a hairdryer on the cool setting brings them back to life.
